Music is Medicine partners with musicians to inspire, fundraise, and increase awareness for pediatric
patients.

April 18 2016 – [LA, California]Music is Medicine announced today the upcoming release of original song “Hope Is In You” and its accompanying music video, song co-written by actress and singer/songwriter Ashley Argota [Freeform’s “The Fosters”] and songwriter Rebekah White, audio produced by Barry Weeks, and music video produced by Samuel Womer. The artists partnered with Music is Medicine to write and record an original song for Iris, a pediatric oncology photo-4-19-16patient at the Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, Department of Pediatric Oncology. The song’s proceeds will benefit A Hope Fund for Iris, a fund set up to support rhabdomyosarcoma research, the disease Iris battled. Iris lost her battle to cancer several months ago; her family is dedicated to finding a cure.

Through Music is Medicine, the artists video chatted with Iris in 2015 to get to know her, and immediately fell in love and penned her song. Then, they flew to Baltimore to meet Iris in-person and perform “Hope Is In You” for her and her friends and family. “Music is Medicine is the best thing that has happened to us,” Iris’s mother shared last October. Upon returning to their hometowns, the artists recorded the audio and music video for the song, hoping the song and Iris’s story would inspire people and increase awareness and funding for the fight against Iris’s illness.

“I was lucky enough to get to know Iris and her family and honored to have co-written this song for her,” artist and co-writer Ashley Argota told us. “I knew from the second I met her that she was special. Iris was such a beacon of hope and light for so many people and she inspired me and changed my life in so many ways. I miss her every day and hope that this song does what Iris did for so many people– bring hope and love in to many, many lives.”

Co-writer Rebekah White added, “Iris was amazing and so full of light. We partnered with Music is Medicine to change her life, and she ended up changing ours. She wanted a song about hope. Hope radiated from the core of who she was. I am honored and blessed to have gotten the opportunity to meet Iris and her family, and to have co-written this song with Ashley, for Iris. I hope this song changes other’s lives, like Iris changed ours.”

Previous songs created for patients through Music is Medicine’s programs have reached hundreds of thousands of people and motivated 13 year-old Brooke to “want to push harder to get better” in her fight against cancer and was “just mind blowing” for 16 year-old cancer patient Bo. Ashley is the seventh artist to participate in the program, and she is excited to encourage other artists to give back, as well.
