Bo and Savannah

sav and bo with guitar

Bo not only loves listening to music but also creating and performing it.  Despite battling cancer as a teenager, he is a member of a band.   Music is major part of Bo’s life, and he wants to keep it that way; he wants to be a music teacher one day.

Music is Medicine is one of the best things that I’ve gotten to do through my time at Johns Hopkins. Music is my life, and the chance to be a part of something like this with an awesome musician is just mind blowing.” – Bo

Outen Brave and True album

Bo met singer/songwriter Savannah Outen, and  Bo’s story became Savannah’s inspiration.  After meeting Bo, Savannah created the original song “Brave and True.”

I have to say that was one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. Just everybody at the hospital and all of the people involved with ‘Music is Medicine’ – everybody was just so sweet and so genuine.  I had the best time ever.” – Savannah Outen

Savannah came to the hospital to perform Bo’s song, “Brave and True,” a song written for him and inspired by him.  As a talented musician himself, Bo grabbed a guitar and jammed with Savannah.  He played as Savannah sang the Beatles classic “Come Together,”  and Bo’s dad caught it on video! Check it out here.

Savannah, I am so grateful for you and for Music is Medicine. The song is absolutely beautiful and is so Bo! It was such a blessing to have met you. As Bo’s mom, to say thank you seems so inadequate. You have touched my son and in turn, our whole family in a very special way.” – Kathy, Bo’s mom
